Also this year, a cycle of seminars on new technologies, Artificial Intelligence and law, coordinated by Prof. Ugo Ruffolo, will be held as part of the School of Law and the School of Legal Studies of the University of Bologna.

In continuity with the editions of previous years, during the seminar cycle will be surveyed the many issues of legal mediation related to the use of new technologies and Artificial Intelligence systems in various sectors.

In particular, the issues relating to the regulation of AI will be addressed, as well as the responsibilities connected to its production and its use, from liability for defective products to liability for dangerous activities, also taking into account the developments of the sectoral EU regulation and the issues posed by the proposal of a EU Regulation for an Artificial Intelligence Act, as well as the proposal of directives on “adapting non-contractual civil liability rules to artificial intelligence” and on “liability for defective products”. Specific discussion will also be dedicated to the legal questions posed by the AI. generative and the “ChatGPT case”.

The problems of “platform law” will then take on central importance: from content moderation to the protection of freedom of expression of thought online, from the management of disinformation and fake news to deepfakes, from profiling to problems of competition and antitrust law. The legal issues related to the new frontiers of the metaverse will also be covered.

During the twelve meetings, academics, representatives of the institutions, representatives of the judiciary and Authorities, representatives of the publishing world, as well as lawyers or top managers of relevant business realities will be involved in a dialogue between different knowledge.

The meetings of the series of seminars will take place every Tuesday starting from October 3, 2023 until December 19, 2023, in the time slot 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m., at Palazzo Malvezzi (Via Zamboni, n. 22). There is, however, the possibility of remote participation for each meeting via Microsoft Teams, following the instructions indicated on the attached brochure.
