The two volumes “Artificial Intelligence Law. Volume I – Liability. Contract. Regulation. Autonomous Vehicles” and “Artificial Intelligence Law. Volume II – Industrial and Intellectual Property. CorpTech. Predictive justice. Transhumanism. Generative AI. Metaverse” by Ugo Ruffolo and Andrea Amidei, published by LUISS University Press, which inaugurate the series “The Rules of Innovation”, edited by Prof. Ruffolo and Prof. Antonio Nuzzo, are now available.

The two volumes, which can be enjoyed as standalone – but which, added together, offer a “short treatise” on AI law – address, from an interdisciplinary perspective, the most relevant legal mediation issues dictated by the ever-increasing use of intelligent systems.

The first volume explores the more general areas of the subject: the multiple issues of liability – civil, product, criminal – up to the question of whether machina delinquere potest; those, related, of “electronic personality”; the new AI Act and the relationship with other legislation such as GDPR and DSA; the impact of algorithmic contracting on contract law; and the case study of self-driving and driverless vehicles.

Devoted to more sectoral issues is the second of the two volumes, which surveys the conditioning effects of legal machinery on the employment and evolution of AI in crucial areas: generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT...), which is not only robotic communication (authoritatively adjustable or “incensed” as “manifestation of thought”?), but evolves as the new frontier of AI (up to AGI? ); copyright and patent issues for robotic works and inventions; issues of human copyright infringement for works from which AI “learns”; metaverse and offline effects, including contractual and liability effects, of “virtual life”; AI and justice, from the pre-dictation algorithm to “robotic adjudication”; CorpTech perspectives.
